The privacy policy and terms are live
- The beta is now open: anyone in Canada or the US (outside Quebec), 16 or older, can sign up at app.rainorride.com without an invite. Know someone who'd use it? Send them there, or use your invite link in Settings.
- The Privacy Policy, Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy and Terms of Service are now published on rainorride.com, so the links at sign-up and in the footer open the real pages. They're the private beta version: a lawyer is still reviewing them, and we'll tell you before any change from that review takes effect.
Roll a ride, and rides without a running plan
- Settings no longer says Rain or Ride needs Intervals.icu: connecting it brings your planned runs in by themselves, and typing them in works just as well. Sign-up now links the Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy too.
- A ride that's mostly threshold with a few short VO2 reps now says so ("Threshold ride with VO2 reps") instead of calling the whole thing a VO2 ride.
- Without a threshold pace, the week's header now says "Threshold pace: not set" instead of a made-up 5:00/km default. Add yours in Settings for more precise rides.
- Small tidy-ups: the line above the heart-rate and feel downloads now says what they are, your test tiles show the weekday, the ratings count in plain numbers ("1 of 2 rated rides felt about right"), and printing the week leaves out the buttons and panels.
- If a sync takes more than a few minutes, the banner now says so ("Still syncing… taking longer than usual") instead of asking you to reload.
- Fixed: without a threshold pace in Settings, slow repeats like "3x (10min @ 7:00/km, 2min jog)" (run-walk or beginner plans) no longer become a hard threshold ride; they ride easy.
- Pasting: an email, a chat message or a weather forecast that only mentions a time or a distance is no longer turned into a run, and a workout written in another language says it can only read English for now.
- On phones, small buttons, the "Ride it as" choices and the fold-out rows ("Original run", "Add a run") are now at least 44 px tall, so they're easier to tap.
- Every ride card has a "Ride steps" list under the chart: each step's length, % FTP (and watts) and zone, readable on a phone or with a screen reader without tapping the chart.
- Your week shows one tip card at a time at the top, so on a phone your runs aren't pushed down by a stack of notices.
- "Add a run" starts on today's date, so you only change it for another day.
- Signing in is simpler: enter your email, get a code, type it in. One button, plain words, and a way to get a new code or use a different email.
- Settings is much shorter on a phone: less-used cards (how rides are built, weather, invite friends, check-ins, your data) fold to their heading until you tap them, and the "Trial" line is gone while the beta is free.
- Roll a ride swaps in new rides without reloading the page again (it had been reloading every time), and keyboard and screen-reader users land on the first new ride.
- Small fixes: run names can be up to 100 characters (they were cut at 80), placeholders in Settings and sign-in are easier to read in dark mode, a "Skip to this week" link for keyboard users, clearer messages for the sign-up boxes and for a heart rate or FTP out of range, and the sign-up page now says a code only comes if you're on the beta list.
- If Intervals.icu stops accepting our connection to your account (say you removed the app there), Rain or Ride now asks you to reconnect it in Settings instead of saying it ran out of calls for the day.
- After setup, your first runs from Intervals.icu come in a few seconds after the week opens ("Syncing…"), so a slow Intervals.icu can no longer leave you on an error page or an empty week.
- Fixed on phones: "Sync now" at the top of your week is no longer cut off; it sits under the Rain or Ride name on narrow screens.
- Fixed on phones: after "I rode this", the Rain or Ride workout block no longer squeezes its title into a narrow column, one word per line.
- On phones the Feedback button is now a small round button, so it no longer hides buttons like "Add run" or "Cancel" near the right edge.
- Every page's footer now says that Rain or Ride is independent and isn't affiliated with Zwift or Garmin.
- Settings now spells out everything that withdrawing consent deletes: typed and synced runs, rides sent, ratings and uploaded rides, ride flags, rolled rides and favourites, and the thresholds you entered.
- Fixed: a recovery or rest with its own heart-rate, zone or pace target (like "2min jog 160-175 bpm") is now ridden easy. Before, it could come out as hard as the rep, so the ride had no real recoveries.
- Connect Intervals.icu now works: your planned runs come in by themselves, and "Send to Intervals.icu" puts the ride on your Intervals.icu calendar, which syncs it to Zwift and your Garmin. Connect it in Settings.
- After "Send to Intervals.icu", a short message confirms which ride went to which day, and how it reaches Zwift and your Garmin.
- "Sync now" refreshes the page by itself when the sync is done, so you don't have to reload.
- Roll a ride has a "Clear these rides" button, and putting a ride on your week with "Ride this" clears the other options, so the panel stops opening every time you come back.
- On phones, tapping a text box (like the email on the sign-in page) no longer zooms the page in.
- Tapping "Retry sync" twice in a row no longer shows a red "Last update failed" box.
- New: Roll a ride. Pick a length (30 to 90 minutes) and a vibe (Chill, Steady, Spicy, Max or Surprise me), and get three different indoor rides to choose from. Re-roll one or all three; you won't see the same ride twice in a visit.
- Each option shows its chart, what it is in plain words, every step with how it should feel (RPE), and downloads for Zwift (.zwo) and Garmin (.fit), including "By feel (RPE)" for riding without a power meter.
- "Ride this" puts it on your week: from then on it works like any ride (I rode this, ratings, flags, uploading your ride, Send to Intervals.icu).
- Star a ride to keep it in your favourites and ride it again another day.
- Every ride has a short code, like R1-SPICY-45-K2F9, to share with a friend. It holds nothing about you; watts come from whoever opens it.
- If you ask for a hard ride next to a hard or long run (or yesterday's hard ride), we say so and roll one vibe easier. "Roll it as asked anyway" if you feel good.
- Don't run? Pick "I just want indoor rides" when you set up, or in Settings: your week starts with Roll a ride, and you only need your cycling FTP (optional).
Invite a friend, watts, pasting workouts, check-ins, and flagging a ride
- New: invite friends to the beta. Settings has your own link ("Invite friends") with a Copy button. Friends who open it can sign up without waiting on the waitlist.
- For each friend who then marks 5 rides "I rode this" on 5 different days within 60 days, you get a free month when paid plans start, up to 5 months. Settings shows how many friends joined and counted, never who they are.
- We never email your friends: you share the link yourself.
- If Rain or Ride knows your cycling FTP (from Settings or Intervals.icu), rides show watts next to % FTP: in the summary, the ride note, the "Ride it as" choices and the chart (tap a block, or read the watts scale on the right). Watts are rounded to the nearest 5.
- No FTP yet? The card says where to add it. Downloads and rides sent to Intervals.icu stay in % FTP, so your trainer adjusts them if your FTP changes.
- New: now and then your week asks "How's it going?": how likely you'd recommend Rain or Ride, how the rides felt compared with the runs, and one thing to improve. Only the first question is needed. It first shows after your 3rd ride (or a week in, once you've ridden), then at most once a month.
- "Not now" asks again in a week; "Don't ask again" stops it, and Settings ("Check-ins") turns it back on. Your answers stay in our own database and are in your data export.
- On the Ratings page, your ride vs the plan shows the planned watts too.
- The "Connect Intervals.icu" button is greyed out and marked "Coming soon" until Intervals.icu approves the app. Type your runs in until then.
- Add a run: copy a workout from your training app, your calendar or a coach's message and paste it under "Type it instead". There's no format to follow: it opens as steps you can check, tells you how many steps it understood, and lists any lines it couldn't read, so you can fix them before you save. Race-pace words like "5k pace" or "marathon pace" set how hard the ride is. "How pasting works" explains it.
- Pasting reads more workouts: repeats written in a sentence or with the count at the end ("do this 8 times"), numbers in words from voice dictation, a watch app's copied step list (heart-rate targets kept, and a repeat inside a repeat written out), spreadsheet rows, ladders like 200-400-600, and the easy half of a fartlek as the recovery. Text that isn't a workout (a race report, a recipe, a rest day) is no longer turned into steps, and a whole week asks you to paste one workout at a time.
- New: "Something off with this ride?" under every ride. Tick what's wrong (too hard, too easy, confusing, wrong structure, other) and add a note if you like. We keep the ride exactly as you saw it with your answer, so we can see what went wrong.
- New testers get a short "Getting started" list at the top of the week: add a threshold, add or sync a run, mark a ride "I rode this", rate it, and (optionally) upload the ride. Steps tick themselves as you go, and "Hide" puts it away.
- Settings shows your founding-member price, locked in as a beta tester, and any free months you've earned by inviting friends.
- Deleting your account now asks, optionally, what made you leave. The answer is kept without your name, email or account.
- Now and then a short note from us may show at the top of your week. "Dismiss" hides it for good.
- On the ride chart, hovering an eased-in rep now shows the whole rep length (15min, not 14min) when watts are shown.
Smarter rides, and a tidier Settings page
Rides are now built from what a run is meant to do, not a straight heart-rate conversion.
- Hard reps are set by how long they are: long threshold reps (like 2 × 15 min) come out around 92–97% FTP instead of well over 100%.
- Easy runs become easy rides of the same length. You can still add extra easy time in Settings.
- Each ride card says what kind of ride it is and why (for example "Threshold ride · 94% FTP").
- The recovery after the last rep is left out when the cool-down comes next. You can turn this off in Settings.
- Hard rides now come in up to three versions with the same hard time: under the ride, "Ride it as" lets you pick, say, 2 × 15 as planned, 3 × 10 or 5 × 6. The chart, downloads and Send to Intervals.icu follow your pick, and your rating remembers which one you rode.
- Long reps (8 minutes or more) that come after a recovery or the warm-up now start with a short ramp of 60–90 seconds, so they aren't hard on the legs straight away. The rep stays the same length. You can turn this off in Settings ("Ease into long reps").
- Step by step: changing a step's type (Warm up, Run, Recover, Rest, Cool down) keeps its time or distance and its target.
- Step by step: picking a template after you've changed the steps asks before it replaces them.
- Step by step: heart rate and pace ranges fit on one line, on phones too.
- Workout names end in "RainorRide.com", so they're easy to spot in Zwift, Garmin and Strava.
- Settings has been rebuilt to match the week page.
- Uploading your ride and comparing it with the plan has moved to the Ratings page. The week card links to it.
- New: this page.
- New: the weather on your week (off until you turn it on in Settings, with your town or the first 3 characters of your postal or ZIP code). Each day shows a short forecast like "70% rain · 12 °C", run days where rain, snow, ice, strong wind, heat, cold or an official alert might make it a ride day say "Might be a ride day", and alerts show as the weather service wrote them. It only suggests: your runs stay where they are. Choose °C or °F in Settings.
- If a run's heart-rate or pace targets can't be read properly because your threshold heart rate or threshold pace isn't set, the card now says so under the ride, with a link to Settings. Adding it gives a more precise ride, and for hard runs the other ways to ride it.
- No threshold heart rate or pace yet? Hard runs no longer turn into easy rides. We now read the run's shape (reps with easier recoveries between them, and how long each rep is) and set a slightly gentler target, and the card says it's an estimate. Adding your thresholds in Settings (now marked "Recommended") makes it precise, and the week page reminds you once until you add them or tap "Got it".
- Riding on an iPad, Apple TV or phone? A new help page, linked under the download buttons, shows how to get the ride there through a free Intervals.icu account until we can send it straight to Zwift.
